Academic
Programs Evaluation
The Academic
Programs Evaluation Project was started in the academic year 1999-2000,
as an initiative of the Office of Academic Planning (OPA) sponsored
by funds of Title V of the Department of Education of the United
States and with the support of the Deanship of Academic Affairs
of the Río Piedras Campus. During the first phases of the
project, the Academic Programs Evaluation Plan, the organizational
structure was designed. Also, the Institutional Committee for
the Evaluation of Academic Programs was constituted (CIEPA). By
May of 2004, more than 40 programs or departments have participated
at the project.
The magnitude
and relevance of the results from the project carries to it's
institutionalization favoring the development of a continuous
evaluation culture in the Río Piedras Campus. The evaluation
process has managed to have institutional presence and is recognized
as one of the pillars of the academic development. The principles
that support the project promote the dialogue from a critical
perspective and the use of results for the improvement of the
academic programs in an integral. The process of evaluation has
shown to be a valuable tool to advance and to facilitate efforts,
such as: curriculum revision, elaboration of the student intended
outcome, analysis of demands by program and program self evaluation,
among others. |
